Educational Qualification
1) Sub Inspector (UB) & Assistant Jailor: The candidates should be a graduate in Arts/Science/ Commerce or equivalent stream from a recognized College/Institution affiliated to a recognized University.
2) Station Officer & Squad Commander: The candidates should be B.Sc. with Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics from a recognized College/Institution affiliated to a recognized University.
3) Sub Inspector of Police Communication: The candidates should be B.Sc. (Electronics Science/ IT/ Computer Science) (10+2+3 duration).
OR
3-year Diploma from State Polytechnic in Electronics and Tele Communication, or Electronics or Information Technology, or Instrumentation or Computer Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent with 2 years work experience in the field of Electronics, Telecom, IT or allied environment. OR
3-year Diploma from State Polytechnic in Electronics and Tele Communication, or Electronics or Information Technology, or Instrumentation or Computer Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent and 2 years additional course/courses in Telecommunication /IT /Computer Science/ Computer Engineering or equivalent.
OR
Master of Computer Application (MCA)
OR
B.E./ B. Tec. in E & TC Computer or Instrumentation or IT or equivalent qualification in same discipline.
Eligibility Criteria
1) Applicant must be a Citizen of India and Permanent Resident of Assam.
2) Selected Applicants will have to submit Proof of Residence after publication of the Final Select List. However, Applicants belonging to SC, ST, OBC/MOBC are exempted from submitting such Certificates.
3) The Applicant must be registered with a local Employment Exchange in Assam.
4) The Applicant must speak Assamese or any other State language fluently.
Age Limit for Assam Police Recruitment 2026
Sub Inspector (UB) & Sub Inspector of Police (Communication) :The age of the Applicant must be 20-26 years as on 01-01-2026 (i.e., Applicants born not before 01-01-2000 and not later than 01-01-2006).
Station Officer & Squad Commander) :The age of the Applicant must be 20-24 years as on 01-01-2026 (i.e., Applicants born not before 01-01-2002 and not later than 01-01-2006).
Assistant Jailor :The age of the Applicant must be 21-40 years as on 01-01-2026 (i.e., Applicants born not before 01-01-1986 and not later than 01-01-2005)
Relaxations : Upper age limit for different categories are as under:
- The age of the Applicants will be calculated on the basis of the Matriculation/HSLC Admit Card/HSLC Passed Certificate issued by a recognized Board/Council. No other document shall be accepted in lieu thereof for this purpose.
- Any other document relating to age such as Horoscope, Affidavit, Birth Extract from Municipal Corporation, Health Department, Service Record etc. will NOT be accepted.
Physical Standard
Medical Standard
1) Sub Inspector (UB), Sub Inspector of Police (Communication), Station Officer, Squad Commander: -
- Applicant must be in good mental and bodily health. They must be free from any physical deformities and free from diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, hernia, piles, respiratory diseases, knock-knee, flat foot or any other physical deformity that is likely to interfere with the efficient performance of duties. Applicants should not be colour blind or be squint eyed.
- Eye Sight: The distance vision should be 6/6 for at least one eye and not poorer than 6/9 for the other without correction. Near vision should be normal.
- Varicose vein shall be considered as temporary disqualification.
2) Assistant Jailor : -
- Weight (for Male & Female Applicants): proportionate to height and age as per medical standard.
- Applicants must be of sound health both mentally and physically, and free from organic defect or bodily infirmity likely to interfere with the efficient discharge of his /her duties.
Salary for Assam Police Recruitment
Pay Scale of Rs. 14000-70000/- (Pay Band No. 2) plus Rs. 8700/- Grade Pay plus other Allowances, as admissible under the Rules.
Selection Process for Assam Police Recruitment 2026
- Written Examination
- Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Medical Examination followed by Physical Standard Test (PST).

- Pass Certificate & Mark sheet of required educational qualification for the posts concerned as mentioned at Para 5.6 above.

- Aadhaar Card.
- Caste Certificate, if applicable, is acceptable only from the Competent Authority authorized by the Govt. of Assam. CASTE CERTIFICATE ISSUED BY ANY OTHER AUTHORITY/STATES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
- Additional Documents to be uploaded with application to avail the benefit of age relaxation in case of Ex-Servicemen: (i) Copy of Discharged Book & Copy of Identity Card of Ex-Servicemen.
